EXOVORE is a dual-stick space horror shoot’em-up inspired by the legendary Sinistar. You’ll mine asteroids for energy, forge powerful weapons and battle through swarms of biomechanical nightmares as a colossal alien intelligence awakens to destroy you.

Every shot counts in this retro-style arcade gauntlet, blending frantic twin-stick controls with modern effects and a pulsating synth soundtrack. The deeper you fly into the void, the more the enemy evolves - faster, angrier, hungrier.

Survive long enough to confront the Exovore, an ancient race of cosmic horror that fiercely protects its territory from plunder.

Features:

  • ⚡ Classic twin-stick gameplay also playable with mouse + keyboard
  • 🌌 Procedurally generated sectors full of asteroids, enemies, and power-ups
  • 💀 Terrifying boss encounters against living machines and cosmic horrors
  • 🧩 Upgrade and adapt your ship using harvested resources
  • 🎶 Awesome chiptune soundtrack evoking the golden age of arcade gaming

The game can be played with either:

- Mouse + keys

- Gamepad

- Just keyboard

- On-screen dual-stick controls on mobile

You don't need to configure anything, just use the control mechanism you prefer. But since this makes the control map look somewhat complicated, I tried making it as simple to understand I possible.

Does the following image make sense?

New version (here and on my site) now also includes voice over for almost all in-game messages. I thought it an important accessibility thing too, but speech can be disabled in settings.

no idea what the characters are saying, text is too fast in a corner. Also is all art in this game AI slop? I may be getting jaded.

Ah, good point. I'll make the text last longer - or scroll so one message doesn't neuter another.

It will definitely help :) sorry, my last comment may have been overwhelmingly negative, it was still a fun experience!

Done - the version on my site updated (didn't rebuild for Itch yet) https://spikything.com/games/exovore/

Because the demo drops you straight into level 5 and adds an intro message you wouldn't normally get, it can get a bit 'verbose' :)

In the full version, level 1 starts out very sedate and teaches the controls a step at a time, etc.
